Multi-image ad composition

Design Basic Index: Loosened Alignment Exercise

This assignment took me way out of my comfort zone as I found myself questioning both my instincts and my newly learned knowledge about graphic design.  After studying the images on page 84-87 in Design Basics Index, I attempted to create a toystore ad incorporating some of the principles of the loosely assembled layout.

The greatest challenge I had stemmed from choosing the appropriate tools to work with in order to create the ad.  I decided to use www.canva.com in order to play with the elements of the loosely assembled layout.  I began with more strict alignment template, and then tweaked several elements to begin to create a more loosely assembled layout.  During the process of moving from a more highly formatted to a loose alignment, I found myself questioning my decisions and wondering how much to relax the elements?  Although this is my final product, I do think I left more highly formatted elements than were necessary.  This is definitely an area for me to focus on as I continue to grow and learn throughout this course.
