Select something you have previously designed (photo, website, newsletter, etc.) and make revisions based on what you learned in this module. Share your before/after examples and explain what you changed and why.
For this assignment, I decided to take an infographic that I had designed as a way to introduce a collaborative project between my Kindergarten class and a 6th grade Social Studies class in our district. The infographic was used at Back to School Night for both 6th grade and Kindergarten parents.
Original Design Critique:
In this design I made several of the amateur errors presented in the readings. The first thing I noticed that I had done, was to center the text under the title. While I did not center all of the text, I found that when I justified it in the updated version, the flow seemed to improve and it was more visually pleasing.
The second flaw I noticed was that I added too much text, and in doing so created very small margins. In the updated version, I deleted unnecessary text, and increased the margin size to allow for more negative space.
I also resized the pictures on the infographic so that the margins were even on both sides, and the photos were more evenly aligned. Although the design still needs work, the small improvements made for a much better and more reader-friendly design.
